This Halloweekend experience an evening of literary frights at Brucemore. As you explore the mansion after hours, discover local actors in select rooms ready to share haunting tales from the past. During your visit, take a moment to grab a drink from the cash bar and have your cards read in the study.

To make this event an intimate experience, space will be limited. Advance ticket purchase is recommended.

What to Know Before You Go
Is this a haunted house event?
The goal of this program is to share horror stories from the past in an atmospheric setting. Unlike Halloween haunted house attractions, there will be no jump scares or masked monsters. A spooky ambiance will be created through use of electric candles and seasonal decor. Please expect dim lighting.
Is the mansion haunted?
There are no ghosts living at the mansion. Rumors of the mansion being haunted come from Ellen Douglas’ book When We Went First Class. Brucemore does not allow paranormal investigating equipment inside the mansion.
Is this event wheelchair accessible?
The historic mansion is not currently wheelchair accessible. There are several stairs to access the first floor, and several flights of stairs to see the other floors. Please make the best decision for the accessibility of your party with this knowledge. An elevator is not available from the first floor to the other floors at any time.
Stories at this event will take place on multiple floors throughout the house.
Do I need to pick an entry time?
Timed entry is available for this event at 30 minute increments. Once inside the mansion, you may stay until closing. When purchasing tickets, please select an entry time. Please note that entry times may sell out. Due to the limited capacity of this event, we may not be able to allow early entrance if you come before your entry time. Please plan to spend approximately 60 minutes in the mansion for this event.
What are the ticket and weather policies?
All ticket sales are non-refundable. Please read our ticket policy here. If the event needs to be cancelled due to weather, ticket holders will be contacted by email and phone. This is an indoor event and will continue in the event of rain or snow.
What are the photo and video policies?
- At this event, photography and videos may be recorded. By attending this event, you may be included in these photos and videos. Your attendance at this event grants your permission to be in these photos or videos, which may be used for educational, archival, or promotional purposes. If you have concerns about your likeness appearing in these photos and videos, please talk to a staff member when you check in for the event.
- Photography is allowed inside the mansion for personal, non-commercial use. Tripods, selfie-sticks, or other photography equipment are not permitted. Please read our photo policy here.

What to do when you arrive
- Enter through the gate at 2160 Linden Dr. SE., Cedar Rapids, IA 52403. Please do not use the exit gate on First Avenue to enter the site.
- Once onsite, follow signs towards the mansion.
- There is on-site parking a short walk from the mansion entrance.
- If you purchased tickets in advance, please check in with staff at the mansion at the time on your ticket. If you need to purchase a ticket, you can do that at the mansion when you arrive.
- The mansion entrance is on the south side of the building, through the front door next to the circle drive.
Tips for your visit
- For site navigation tips, please watch this video. A labeled Google Map of the site is available here.
- Please consider leaving bags or other large personal items in your vehicle. A coat rack is available, but it is will not be monitored during this event.
- The mansion door will open at 5:00 PM. Early admittance may not be available and there is not an indoor lobby to wait for the tour to begin. If you arrive early, please enjoy exploring the grounds before the door opens.
- If you arrive after the tour start time, you may be subject to a shortened tour or asked to join another tour time that day, subject to availability.
