Brucemore is pleased to have been awarded a Cultural Leadership Partnership Grant from the Iowa Arts Council, a division of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs. Grant funds will support the creation of opportunities for visitors to discover the relevance of Brucemore on and off the estate.
For 40 years, Brucemore has re-defined on a national level what it means to be a historic site through innovative programs and events. Today, Brucemore embraces an ambitious vision of the site as a historic site and community cultural center, producing and presenting multiple tours, events, theater productions, concerts, and public uses annually. These activities enliven the space while engaging visitors in the site and its history.
“Through this grant award Brucemore can continue to make an impact in the community by preserving and sharing this living landmark,” says Executive Director David Janssen. “It is vital in today’s age to provide positive cultural options and stimulating activities for all ages. We are grateful for this investment at the state level to ensure program development in the years ahead.”
Brucemore is one of only 58 leading arts and cultural organizations named a Cultural Leadership Partner, a competitive process that occurs once every three years. Cultural Leadership Partners receive annual operational support in recognition of their role as community and cultural anchors that maintain high standards of excellence, generate tourism and support high-quality jobs.
“The quality and diversity of art being made and presented across our state is remarkable,” Iowa Arts Council Administrator David Schmitz said. “Even during the pandemic, Iowa artists and arts organizations found new ways to create and connect to Iowans, often in ways that brought them closer to the communities they serve. We’re only beginning to see the results of these strengthened relationships.”
