DESCRIPTION:Looking for a way to indulge your curiosity and your creativity this fall? Visit Brucemore on October 10 to enjoy free arts activities and lawn games on the grounds. The mansion will be open for self-guided tours for only $5 per person. This is the perfect chance to enjoy early autumn weather and see our current seasonal collections feature highlighting objects related to Cedar Rapids industries. \nEvent Date: Saturday\, October 10 \nEvent Time: 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM \nEvent Admission:  \n\n$5 for self-guided tours\nFree outdoor arts activities and lawn games\nBrucemore Supporters receive free access to self-guided tours\nA $4 processing fee will be applied to all online and phone orders. Tickets may be purchased at the door without a processing fee.\n\nWhat to expect from a self-guided tour:  \n\nSelf-guided mansion tours do not include access to buildings other than the mansion.\nAccess to the basement Tahitian Room and Grizzly Bar will be led by a member of our visitor services team approximately every 30 minutes.\nYou may take as much or as little time in the mansion as you’d like\, but we recommend planning to spend 45 minutes in the mansion to allow enough time to explore.\nThe last entry time for self-guided tours is 4:30 PM. The mansion will close at 5:00 PM.\nTours of the mansion consist of substantial walking and standing. The historic mansion is not currently wheelchair accessible. There are several stairs to access the first floor\, and several flights of stairs to see the other floors. The mansion does not have an elevator. Please make the best decision for the accessibility of your party with this knowledge.\n\nWhat to do when you arrive:  \n\nEnter through the gate at 2160 Linden Dr. SE\, Cedar Rapids\, IA 52403. Please do not use the exit gate on First Avenue to enter the site.\nOnce onsite\, follow signs towards the mansion.\nThere is on-site parking a short walk from the mansion entrance.\nIf you purchased tickets in advance\, please check-in with staff at the mansion at the time listed on your ticket. If you need to purchase a ticket\, you can do that at the mansion when you arrive\, subject to availability.\nThe mansion entrance is on the south side of the building\, through the front door next to the circle drive.\n\nTips for your visit:  \n\nFor site navigation tips\, please watch this video. A labeled Google Map of the site is available here.\nPlease consider leaving bags or other large personal items in your vehicle. A coat rack is available\, but it is not monitored during tours.\nFood and drink are not allowed inside the mansion during tours. DESCRIPTION:Calling all curious minds looking for a unique night out!\nMansion Mixers are your chance to explore Brucemore after hours while diving into fascinating stories from history. Each program includes time for self-guided tours of the mansion and the opportunity to enjoy an entertaining history presentation in the Tahitian Room! Your ticket includes a complimentary canned drink served from the mansion’s other quirky basement party space: the Grizzly Bar. If you’re looking for a fun and casual way to learn something new while connecting with other history fans\, then this event is for you! \nUse the boxes below to see upcoming dates and themes. Space for these intimate events is limited\, so we encourage you to buy your tickets early! \nOctober 16 – Busts and Brushstrokes\nHave you ever explored an art museum\, looked around at all the great works around you and thought\, “Why are so many of these women nude?” \nFrom ancient sculptures to modern paintings\, the symbolism and controversy of women’s breasts in Western art is a constant thread. Despite that controversy\, many large\, turn-of-the-20th century mansions like Brucemore have depictions of feminine nudity in many of design elements. During this Mansion Mixer\, bounce into a brief history of women’s breasts in Western art and discover why there are so many busts at Brucemore. \nDuring the social open house\, you are welcome to explore the mansion and participate in a seasonally themed take-home craft. When presentations conclude\, we’ll finish the evening with our team-based activity – an art history scavenger hunt in the mansion! \nThis presentation will include art depicting the intimately nude feminine form as well as discussion around the topic and is intended for adult audience. \nEvent Schedule: \n\n6:00 PM: Doors Open\n6:00 – 8:00 PM: Social Open House (includes self-guided mansion exploration\, “Boo Bees” craft activity\, light snacks to nibble on and a cash bar serving canned beverages)\n7:15 PM: Presentation in the Tahitian Room*\n7:45 PM: Presentation in the Tahitian Room*\n8:15 PM: Censored Searches Scavenger Hunt\n9:00 PM: Evening ends\n\n* Each presentation is the same. Parking is available a short walk from the entrance. If parking near the mansion is full\, overflow parking is available near the Carriage House\, which is a short walk from the mansion.\nEvent check-in is inside the mansion.
