SUMMARY:Live from the Artisan Studio: Caleb Rainey
DESCRIPTION:Take a peek behind the curtain and learn about the artistic journey in this Live from the Artisan Studio event\, featuring Caleb Rainey. At this one-night event\, Caleb will share readings of his poetry and debut new short films he created in partnership with the Artisan Studio. Local film makers involved with the project will give a talk-back to share their process. Join us for this interactive opportunity to learn about the artistic process with local creators. \nCaleb “The Negro Artist” Rainey is an author\, performer\, and producer. His debut book\, Look\, Black Boy\, was awarded first prize in the North Street Book Prize\, and his second book\, Heart Notes was published in 2019. In 2020\, 2021\, and 2022 he was named Best Poet/Spoken Word Performer in Cedar Rapids and Iowa City. He is the winner of several slams across the United States\, a 2019  finalist for the UNESCO City of Literature Global Poetry Slam – Iowa City\, and was featured on blog sites Button Poetry and Write About Now. When he is not writing and performing he is actively curating a community of spoken word poets in Iowa City through his creation of a high school program\, IC Speaks\, and producing local events like the Mic Check Poetry Festival. \nCaleb is one of four artists selected in 2023 to complete a project through support from Brucemore’s Artisan Studio. \nPerformance: Tuesday\, October 17 at 7:00 p.m. \nLocation: Carriage House center space \nAdmission:  \n\n$20 Adult\n$10 Student\nBrucemore donors receive a discount by “signing in” using the link in the upper right corner of the purchase tickets page.\n\n\n\n\n\nIMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR YOUR VISIT \n\nEntry Time: Doors will open at 6:30 PM\nSeating: Seating is available on a first-come basis.\nFood and Beverages: You are welcome to bring your own snacks and beverages (beer and wine allowed) to enjoy in the performance venue. Concessions will not be available for sale at this event.\nParking: The only gate that will open to vehicles for on-site parking is at 2160 Linden Drive SE. Signage will direct you to open spaces near the Carriage House. Accessible parking will be available.\nPets: Pets are not allowed\, with the exception of service animals.\nWeather: This event will take place indoors. If the event needs to be delayed or rescheduled due to weather\, a decision will be made by 5:00 p.m. and ticket holders will be notified by phone.
