DESCRIPTION:Have you ever had an idea you wanted to turn into a song? Join Brucemore for a free beginner or intermediate songwriting workshop where you’ll explore your own creativity\, find inspiration in the experiences around you\, and connect with others through music. \nIntermediate Songwriting Session – Saturday\, October 24\, 1:00 – 5:00 pm \nSome songwriting experience required. We will be looking at storytelling both lyrically and melodically\, the difference between the roles of a songwriter and a singer-songwriter\, how melody and harmony can make or break the best lyrics\, and the business of songwriting. Please bring at least one song you wish to share with a copy of the lyrics (if applicable)\, as there will be a writer’s circle at this session. \nBeginning Songwriting Session – Sunday\, October 25  \nNo musical experience is necessary. We will be exploring the relationships between words and melody\, how to get started\, remain motivated\, and the basics of storytelling. Bring your preferred method of writing things down\, an open mind\, and a willingness to create. \n  \nCapacity is limited for each class. Register online by clicking here or call 319-362-7375.  \n  \nAbout Free For All  \nThe Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation is expanding its popular Free Admission Days into Free for All: Linn County Arts & Culture Week\, a weeklong celebration inviting residents and visitors to explore the places\, people\, and experiences that make our community vibrant. Fifteen participating nonprofit organizations are offering their own free experience\, program\, or activity during the week. Enjoy a variety of activities including songwriting\, dance lessons\, the opera\, a concert band\, pottery\, the orchestra\, history\, and so much more! Visit a favorite. Discover a new one. Bring the family. Invite a friend.
