SUMMARY:Volunteer Derecho Cleanup
DESCRIPTION:Brucemore\, Iowa’s only National Trust historic site\, reflects over 140 years of history through 26-acres and seven historic structures. On August 10\, hurricane-like winds of over 110 miles per hour caused massive damage to the property. The derecho damaged over 70% of the tree canopy\, including more than 40 century-old trees. Staff and contractors have been addressing the most critical issues and working to remove hanging limbs since the storm. Now we need your help in the recovery process! \nWe are looking for volunteers to assist our small staff with clean-up of designated areas of the grounds\, which may include removing branches\, trimming trees\, hauling debris\, picking up building fragments\, and raking. \nWe ask that volunteers: \n\nWork only in areas designated by Brucemore staff\nBe able to work outdoors in varying degrees of fall weather for multiple hours\nComplete work based on physical abilities\nTake breaks as needed and hydrate regularly\n\n Required attire: \n\nWear a mask when within 6’ of others and spatial distance when possible\nClosed toe shoes\n\n Volunteers choosing to bring their own chainsaw or other sharp-bladed equipment\, must: \n\nBe 18 years or older\nBring own equipment and have substantial previous experience using it\nWear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)\, including gloves\, eye protection\, chaps\, ear protection\, and hard hat\nOnly cut branches / trees that are on the ground and have been designated by Brucemore staff\n\n If you’re able to help\, please see upcoming opportunities to sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0d48afa72ba0f49-volunteer6 \n

SUMMARY:A Brucemore Halloween Adventure
DESCRIPTION:Bring your family and join us for a special\, outdoor\, Halloween experience! Children are invited to participate in a craft\, listen to Halloween stories\, and trick-or-treat outside of the mansion. In between activities\, children and parents are invited to experience the historic estate. Costumes are encouraged. As part of our cornovirus mitigation\, masks covering the face and nose are required throughout the event for all people over the age of two. \nDATE: Saturday\, October 31 \nTIME OPTIONS TO CHECK-IN:  \n\n1:00 p.m. (Sold out) \n1:30 p.m. (Sold out)\n2:00 p.m.\n2:30 p.m.\n\nCOST: $30 per family (groups will be checked in by car when arriving). Limit one vehicle per family for on-site parking. Members receive a $5 discount.  \n\nIMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR YOUR PARTICIPATION\nSafety: Your safety and comfort are important to us.  \n\n\nDuring this event\, patrons (2+ years) will be required to wear a face mask that covers the nose and mouth and practice spatial distancing. \n\n\nPlease do not visit if you have been in close contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19\, are experiencing a cough\, shortness of breath\, or sore throat\, or have experienced symptoms like a fever\, a loss of taste or smell\, vomiting or diarrhea or fever in the last 72 hours.  \n\n\nPlease maintain a safe distance of at least six feet between your group\, employees\, and other visitors whenever possible. \n\n\nHand sanitizer will be available to you.  \n\n\nPlease disinfect your hands but we also ask that you wash your hands more frequently\, avoid touching your face\, and practice good respiratory etiquette like sneezing into your elbow rather than into the air. \n\n\nVisitors who do not respect social distancing\, mask\, or hand hygiene requirements may be refused service and asked to leave the site. \n\n\nArrival: We ask that you arrive via our main entrance\, 2160 Linden Drive SE. There is on-site parking for one car per ticket. Staff will facilitate on-site parking.  \nRestrooms: Public restrooms are available. \nCapacity: This event is limited to 15 families per timeslot.   \nCheck-in: You will present your name to check-in prior to parking. The varied check-in times will help lessen the wait! Please do not arrive more than five minutes before your check-in time. Upon checking in\, families may spend as much time as they’d like participating in the various activities. \nAccesibility: Activities are offered at various locations around the estate and may require traveling off paved surfaces.  \nPhotography: Photography is allowed on the grounds. \nPets: Pets are not allowed\, excluding service animals. \nWeather: The event occurs fully outdoors and may be held in light rain. \nTicket policies: Ticket sales are generally non-refundable and support Brucemore’s mission. Exceptions may be requested for cases of illness or esposure to illness (see safety above). A request to transfer the value of unused tickets into a tax-deductible contribution or as an exchange for a different time of the same program\, subject to availability.
