This feature-length documentary sheds light on the untold stories of Iowans who served their country during the Vietnam era\, capturing their experiences with honesty\, respect\, and heartfelt authenticity. \nFrom Iowa and Back: The Vietnam Era represents years of community engagement\, collaboration\, and storytelling. The film offers a deeply personal exploration of the lives of ordinary Iowans who grew up in the 1950s and 60s\, left the idyllic landscapes of small-town America\, and faced the realities of war in foreign lands. Through Glazier’s lens\, the film chronicles the veterans’ journeys\, from the turbulence of war to the challenges of reintegration upon returning home. It provides a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by a generation whose narratives have often been overshadowed by history. \nThis event will feature screenings of From Iowa and Back and a photo gallery exhibition featuring snapshots and artifacts from the Vietnam War era. SUMMARY:Art at Brucemore: Double Glass Holiday Trees - SOLD OUT
DESCRIPTION:Embrace your holiday cheer! \nBrucemore is partnering with the Iowa Ceramics Center and Glass Studio to bring this popular workshop back to the Art at Brucemore series – but this year it’s double the trees\, so double the fun!  \nYou will design a beautiful double glass tree decoration using warm glass techniques. Both trees will share a single stand\, so you can create a forest of sparkling trees to brighten your home for the holidays. All materials and instructions are provided\, and no experience is necessary to participate. Projects include a wooden display stand.  \nAfter creating your tree at Brucemore\, all projects are then taken back to the Iowa Ceramics Center and Glass Studio for firing in their kiln. Your creation will be ready for pick-up from the Iowa Ceramics Center and Glass Studio approximately three weeks following the class date\, just in time to decorate for the holidays! \nTicket sales close on December 4 at 5:00 PM\, but this workshop often sells out in advance.  \nWorkshop Date \nDecember 8\, 12:30 PM – SOLD OUT \nDecember 8\, 2:30 PM – SOLD OUT \n Admission \n$50 per participant \n\nWhat to know before you go \n\nCapacity is limited and workshops often sell out. DESCRIPTION:The Ceramic Holiday Tree workshop is sold out! \n\nEmbrace the sparkle of the season! \nThe holiday season is upon us\, and Brucemore is partnering with the Iowa Ceramics Center and Glass Studio to bring a new holiday workshop to Brucemore. \nRoll up your sleeves and create a magical holiday tree! Form your tree using hand-building techniques and then use scissors and other tools to create the boughs and branches. Finally\, paint on colored glaze and add decorations to your tree to create depth to your project. All materials and instructions are provided\, and no experience is necessary to participate! \nParticipants will craft and glaze their trees at Brucemore. All projects will go back to the Iowa Ceramics Center and Glass studio for firing in their kilns. SUMMARY:Live from the Artisan Studio: Caleb Rainey
DESCRIPTION:Take a peek behind the curtain and learn about the artistic journey in this Live from the Artisan Studio event\, featuring Caleb Rainey. At this one-night event\, Caleb will share readings of his poetry and debut new short films he created in partnership with the Artisan Studio. Local film makers involved with the project will give a talk-back to share their process. Join us for this interactive opportunity to learn about the artistic process with local creators. \nCaleb “The Negro Artist” Rainey is an author\, performer\, and producer. His debut book\, Look\, Black Boy\, was awarded first prize in the North Street Book Prize\, and his second book\, Heart Notes was published in 2019. In 2020\, 2021\, and 2022 he was named Best Poet/Spoken Word Performer in Cedar Rapids and Iowa City. He is the winner of several slams across the United States\, a 2019  finalist for the UNESCO City of Literature Global Poetry Slam – Iowa City\, and was featured on blog sites Button Poetry and Write About Now.
