SUMMARY:Art at Brucemore: Clay Jack O' Lanterns
DESCRIPTION:Embrace your Halloween spirit! \n‘Tis the season of pumpkin spice and happy haunts\, and Brucemore is partnering with the Iowa Ceramics Center and Glass Studio to bring Halloween cheer in this popular workshop! In this class\, participants learn to create their own Jack O’ Lantern trinket using various hand-building techniques. Once sculpted\, participants can add faces\, features\, and texture to their pumpkins and paint them with seasonally colored glazes. Finished projects are approximately 4″x4″ inches in size. \nParticipants will craft and paint their pumpkins at Brucemore. All projects will go back to the Iowa Ceramics Center and Glass studio for firing in their kilns. Participants can pick up their Jack O’ Lantern creations from the Iowa Ceramics Center and Glass Studio three weeks following the class date\, just in time for Trick or Treat! \nDate: Sunday\, October 9\, 2022\nTime: Class begins at 10:30 a.m.\nAdmission: $35 per person (includes all materials and instruction) \nThis event is held in partnership with the Iowa Ceramics Center and Glass Studio \n \n\nIMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR YOUR PARTICIPATION \n\nArrival: We ask that you arrive via our main entrance\, 2160 Linden Drive SE\, Cedar Rapids\, IA 52403 There is on-site parking both near our Visitor Center and the mansion.\nSafety: Masks are not required at this time. DESCRIPTION:Embrace your creativity! \nJust in time for fall\, Brucemore is partnering with the Iowa Ceramics Center and Glass Studio to teach participants how to make their own apple-shaped bowls from clay!  These seasonal bowls perfect to enjoy your favorite seasonal desserts\, no matter what apple inspires your project- fuji\, honeycrisp\, red delicious\, even granny smith! \nParticipants will create and paint their apple bowls at Brucemore. All projects will go back to the Iowa Ceramics Center and Glass Studio for firing in their kilns.  Finished projects will be ready for pickup at the Iowa Ceramics Center and Glass Studio approximately three weeks after the class date. Before you know it\, you’ll be enjoying all sorts of delicious apple desserts in your apple bowl! Guided by staff\, this 45-minute outdoor walking tour will share a century of stories – from the widow who built the mansion to the stewards preserving the site today. Learn about the families who called the mansion home\, see preservation in action all around the site\, enjoy the inspiration of the gardens and landscape\, and rediscover the modern impact of Brucemore on Eastern Iowa. \nAdmission:  \n\n$10 per adult\n$5 per student\nBrucemore members receive a discount- please “sign-in” or call (319) 362-7375.\n\nDates and Times: \n\nOffered through October 28\, 2022!\nThursdays – Fridays with start times at 10:30 AM and 1:30 PM\nSaturdays with start times at 10:30 AM\, 12:30 PM\, and 2:30 PM\nSundays with start times at 12:30 and 2:30 PM\n\nNote: The mansion will be closed to the public to allow a geothermal system to be installed to replace an aging boiler system and will re-open for the 2022 holiday season on November 25. \n  \n\nIMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR YOUR PARTICIPATION \n\nSafety: Masks are recommended indoors and optional outdoors. There is on-site parking a short walk away.\nCheck-in: Please arrive at the Visitor Center a few minutes before your tour start time. Tours will start promptly on time; late arrivals may be subject to a shortened tour. Guests arrive 10 or more minutes late may be asked to wait until a later tour time\, based on availability\, or asked to reschedule their tour for a different date.\nWeather: This tour occurs fully outdoors and may be held in light rain. We encourage all patrons to pay attention to the weather forecast and dress appropriately. If the tour needs to be delayed or cancelled due to weather\, a decision will be made an hour before your scheduled tour time. Guests who purchased their tickets in advanced will be notified by the phone number provided at ticket purchase. There will be no refunds\, only exchanges to another tour time or date if possible.
