Free and open to the public seven days a week for a majority of the year\, visiting the grounds offers the perfect way to immerse yourself in a historic country estate in the heart of Cedar Rapids. Stroll through the gardens\, picnic on the lawn\, birdwatch on a woodland path near the pond\, examine the architecture of the mansion and servants’ village\, discover the multi-stage geocache\, or take in the history of the site with interpretative panels scattered across the grounds. Check out the new History Ungated QR code tour by scanning the codes on signs throughout the estate! Don’t forget to take a selfie (or two) and tag us on social media! \n\n\n\n\nHours through December 31\, 2023:  \n\n\nMonday – Friday\, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm\nSaturday\, 9:30 am – 4:30 pm\nSunday\, 12:30 – 4:30 pm\n\n\n\n*Hours are subject to change seasonally or for special events\, holidays\, and other occasions.  \n\n\n\n\nGuidelines for your visit\n\n\nWe love when furry friends come to visit Brucemore! Please help us keep the site clean and welcoming to everyone by keeping your animal on lead at all times and taking any waste with you.\nWe do not have any garbage cans on the grounds as part of our approach to remove distractions. This year the ballet company will perform A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Tom Mattingly’s new work Love Letters\, following an afternoon of interactive STEM and arts activities. Come experience the whimsy of storytelling\, the wonder of night\, and the magic of our community. Community STEM programming explores the sounds and habits of nocturnal animals\, constellation maps\, moon cycles\, and the science of sleep and dreaming. \nDate: June 7 \nSchedule: \n5:00 – 6:30pm\nSTEM + Arts Community Activities\n6:30 – 7:45pm\nBallet Des Moines Performance\n \nFAQs\nWhere will the event take place? – The performance and activities will be on the First Avenue lawn. \nHow will seating work for this event? – All guests will need to bring their own blankets and chairs to enjoy the performance. \nCan I bring my pet? – Pets are not allowed at this event\, excluding service animals. \nWill food be available during the event? – Food vendors (Pita’z\, Aroma Pizza\, Da Flava Unit\, and Travelin’ Tom’s Coffee Truck) will be available during the event. We encourage all guests to support these local businesses\, but you are also welcome to bring your own food and drink. BYO wine and beer is allowed. \nWhere should I park? – Parking will not be available on the Brucemore property during this event. Guests will be responsible for finding off-site parking. The gates to the Brucemore property off First Avenue\, Linden Dr. SE\, and Dows Lane will be open for you to enter or exit the property for the event. \nDo I need to reserve tickets? – This free event does not require any tickets or reservations. \nDo I need to attend the full event? – We encourage all guests to enjoy the full schedule of activities and performances\, but you are welcome to come for any part of the event that interests you. Guests will be able to enter and exit the property at any time during the program. To respect the performers\, we ask that you do not leave in the middle of the performance unless it is an emergency. \nWill the mansion be open during this event? – The mansion will be open for limited\, free self-guided tours from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM. \nWill this event be held during rain or inclement weather? – Safety of everyone involved will be a priority. DESCRIPTION:It’s time to get creative!\nJoin us for a Friday Night Out with the Iowa Ceramics Center and Glass Studio at Brucemore. This workshop is for guests 21+ and participants are welcome to BYOB. \nDuring this workshop\, participants will sculpt a beautiful\, fluted vase using various hand-building techniques and tools to create texture and movement in their creation. This project is perfect to personalize your potted plants! \nThis workshop is hosted in the Brucemore Carriage House. All instructions and materials are provided during the workshop. Following the workshop\, the instructor will take the projects to the Iowa Ceramics Center and Glass Studio\, add a white glaze to the projects\, and fire them in their kiln. Where previous projects have placed Marcy in the realms of folk and country (with a hint of gospel)\, this endeavor pushes toward a heavier\, rootsy\, and organic Americana feel.
