Guided by staff\, this 45-minute outdoor walking tour will share a century of stories – from the widow who built the mansion to the stewards preserving the site today. Learn about the families who called the mansion home\, see preservation in action all around the site\, enjoy the inspiration of the gardens and landscape\, and rediscover the modern impact of Brucemore on Eastern Iowa. \nAdmission:  \n\n$10 per adult\n$5 per student\nBrucemore members receive a discount- please “sign-in” or call (319) 362-7375.\n\nDates and Times: \n\nOffered through October 28\, 2022!\nThursdays – Fridays with start times at 10:30 AM and 1:30 PM\nSaturdays with start times at 10:30 AM\, 12:30 PM\, and 2:30 PM\nSundays with start times at 12:30 and 2:30 PM\n\nNote: The mansion will be closed to the public to allow a geothermal system to be installed to replace an aging boiler system and will re-open for the 2022 holiday season on November 25. \n  \n\nIMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR YOUR PARTICIPATION \n\nSafety: Masks are recommended indoors and optional outdoors. Based on the Elephant & Piggie books by Mo Willems.  \nBased on Mo Willems’ beloved children’s books\, Elephant and Piggie’s onstage outdoor adventure will leave young audiences doing the “Flippy Floppy Floory” dance all night long! \nAn elephant named Gerald and a pig named Piggie are best\, best\, “bestus” friends\, but Gerald worries that something could go wrong that would end their friendship. Piggie is not worried at all! She’s even happier and more excited than usual because she and Gerald are invited to a party hosted by the Squirrelles\, three singing squirrels who love to have a good time. Bring your own snacks and drinks for a fun and relaxed evening of music. \nAbout the Talent: Matt & Kristin Brooks \nMatt & Kristin Brooks are a husband and wife duo from the Eastern Iowa corridor\, and formed their first duo in Austin\, Texas after making the move in 2001. Booking themselves as ‘Cosmic Texas Music’ they infused the spirit of Gram Parsons/Emmylou Harris with a Texas version of the alt-country of the time. Since returning in 2012\, Matt is often in the pit for both Theatre Cedar Rapids and City Circle\, while Kristin has been staying active behind-the-scenes in the local theater community. They have hosted evenings at the Opus Concert Café\, been featured guests in several SPT Theatre shows\, and even performed at Brucemore’s Cabaret in the Courtyard series. In this class\, participants learn to create their own Jack O’ Lantern trinket using various hand-building techniques. Once sculpted\, participants can add faces\, features\, and texture to their pumpkins and paint them with seasonally colored glazes. This self-guided experience features three floors plus basement Grizzly Bar and Tahitian Room with interpretive materials and family friendly interactives. Before or after your tour\, put on your hat and gloves to visit the grounds at no additional cost. Stroll through the gardens\, picnic on the lawn\, birdwatch on a woodland path near the pond\, examine the architecture of the mansion and servants’ village\, discover the multi-stage geocache\, or take in the history of the site with interpretative panels scattered across the grounds. Check out the new History Ungated QR code tour by scanning the codes on signs throughout the estate! Don’t forget to take a selfie (or two) and tag us on social media! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHours through September 3\, 2023:  \n\n\nMonday – Friday\, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm\nSaturday\, 9:30 am – 4:30 pm\nSunday\, 12:30 – 4:30 pm\n\n\n\n*Hours are subject to change seasonally or for special events\, holidays\, and other occasions.  \n\n\n\n\nGuidelines for your visit\n\n\nWe love when furry friends come to visit Brucemore! From the woman who built the mansion to the woman who gifted it to the National Trust for Historic Preservation\, the “In Her Steps” tour offers unique insight into the women of Brucemore. Free and open to the public seven days a week for a majority of the year\, visiting the grounds offers the perfect way to immerse yourself in a historic country estate in the heart of Cedar Rapids. Stroll through the gardens\, picnic on the lawn\, birdwatch on a woodland path near the pond\, examine the architecture of the mansion and servants’ village\, discover the multi-stage geocache\, or take in the history of the site with interpretative panels scattered across the grounds. Check out the new History Ungated QR code tour by scanning the codes on signs throughout the estate! Don’t forget to take a selfie (or two) and tag us on social media! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHours through September 3\, 2023:  \n\n\nMonday – Friday\, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm\nSaturday\, 9:30 am – 4:30 pm\nSunday\, 12:30 – 4:30 pm\n\n\n\n*Hours are subject to change seasonally or for special events\, holidays\, and other occasions.  \n\n\n\n\nGuidelines for your visit\n\n\nWe love when furry friends come to visit Brucemore! Please help us keep the site clean and welcoming to everyone by keeping your animal on lead at all times and taking any waste with you.\nWe do not have any garbage cans on the grounds as part of our approach to remove distractions.
