SUMMARY:Art at Brucemore: Glass Garden Bugs
DESCRIPTION:Brucemore is partnering with the Iowa Ceramics Center and Glass Studio to bring you a brand-new glass project! In this workshop\, participants will design a sparkling glass garden bug\, the perfect companion for your garden or potted plants. Using a warm glass technique\, you will craft a one-of-a-kind critter – complete with wings\, legs\, and a friendly face. \nThis workshop is hosted in the Brucemore Carriage House. All instructions and materials are provided during the workshop. All participants must wear close-toed shoes and clothing that covers their legs for safety. Following the workshop the instructor will take the finished projects to the Iowa Ceramics Center and Glass Studio for firing in their kilns. Your creation will be ready for pick up from the Iowa Ceramics Center and Glass studio approximately three weeks following the class date. \nTicket sales for this workshop close on September 3 at 5:00 PM. Please register in advance to reserve your spot! \nWorkshop Date\nSunday\, September 7 at 12:30 PM. \nAdmission\n$55.00 per project \n\nWhat to know before you go \n\nCapacity is limited. Advanced registration is required.\nThis workshop is recommended for children 8 and up\, and must be comfortable working with glass pieces. Discover the oddities of the mansion\, including the Nooks and Crannies exclusive experience of a “rainstorm” in our infamous Tahitian Room! This is your chance to explore all rooms in the mansion and get the answer to one of our most frequently asked questions: “what is behind that door?” \nTickets are only available for advance purchase on Brucemore’s website or over the phone. The historic mansion is not currently wheelchair accessible. There are several stairs to access the first floor\, and several flights of stairs to see the other floors. The mansion does not have an elevator.  Please make the best decision for the accessibility of your party with this knowledge.\nThis tour covers the three main floors of the mansion and the Tahitian Room and Grizzly Bar in the basement.\nThis tour is approximately 45 minutes long.\n\nWhat to do when you arrive \n\nEnter through the gate at 2160 Linden Dr. SE.\, Cedar Rapids\, IA 52403. Please do not use the exit gate on First Avenue to enter the site.\nOnce onsite\, follow signs towards the mansion.\nThere is on-site parking a short walk from the mansion entrance.\nIf you purchased tickets in advance\, please check in with staff at the mansion at the time on your ticket. If you need to purchase a ticket\, you can do that at the mansion when you arrive.\nThe mansion entrance is on the south side of the building\, through the front door next to the circle drive.\n\nTips for your visit \n\nFor site navigation tips\, please watch this video. A labeled Google Map of the site is available here.\nPlease consider leaving bags or other large personal items in your vehicle. A coat rack is available\, but it is not monitored during tours.\nEarly admittance may not be available and there is not an indoor lobby to wait for the tour to begin. If you arrive onsite more than 10 minutes before a scheduled tour\, please enjoy exploring the grounds before entering the mansion.\nGuided mansion tours start promptly on the hour.
