During this 90-minute all-access guided tour that takes you across the estate\, peek inside typically closed buildings built for servant housing or hobby use\, discover the curiosities and oddities of the mansion\, and get the answer to a frequently-asked question – what is behind that door?  As part of this tour\, you will see the infamous mansion basement and experience the sights and sounds of a “rainstorm” in the Tahitian Room\, which is an exclusive perk of the Nooks and Crannies tour! \nTickets for this special-themed tour are available for advance sale on our website. The historic mansion is not currently wheelchair accessible. There are several stairs to access the first floor\, and several flights of stairs to see the other floors. SUMMARY:Art at Brucemore: Greek Key Terracotta Tile
DESCRIPTION:Embrace your creativity! \nBrucemore is partnering with the Iowa Ceramics Center and Glass Studio to bring the final piece of of the tile series to Art at Brucemore! In this unique workshop\, you will receive a pre-made ceramic tile inspired by the terracotta Greek Key tiles that decorate the outside of the mansion! Paint and glaze the tile as you’d like\, connecting your personal masterpiece to the historic architecture of Brucemore. \nThis workshop is hosted in the Brucemore Visitor Center. All instructions and materials are provided during the workshop. Following the workshop\, the instructor will take the projects to the Iowa Ceramics Center and Glass Studio for firing in their kiln. Brucemore will notify participants when their creations are ready for pick-up from the Iowa Ceramics Center and Glass Studio\, approximately three weeks following the class date. \nPrevious tiles in this series included a replica tile of the plasterwork from the Grant Wood Porch\, a terracotta-inspired star tile\, and a terracotta-inspired clover tile. \n\nTicket Information \nDate: Saturday\, April 15\, 2023\nTime: Workshops begin at 10:30 a.m.\nAdmission: $35 per person (includes all materials and instructions). \nThis event is held in partnership with the Iowa Ceramics Center and Glass Studio. \n \n\nIMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR YOUR PARTICIPATION \n\nArrival and Parking: We ask that you arrive via our main entrance\, 2160 Linden Dr. SE.\, Cedar Rapids\, IA 52403. SUMMARY:Self-Guided Mansion Tour
DESCRIPTION:Discover over a century of Cedar Rapids history with this self-guided tour of the Brucemore mansion. Explore the first\, second\, and third floors of the mansion at your own pace while taking in the architecture\, artifacts\, and stories of the Douglas family\, who called Brucemore home from 1906-1937. Use the provided tour book with information to start your experience and read stories about what the spaces reflect or how they were used. Interact with hands-on opportunities and ask questions of the knowledgeable staff and volunteers. Head outside after your mansion tour and explore the 26-acres of grounds and gardens on your own at no additional cost. We recommend planning for 45 minutes indoors. \nTickets for guided tours of the mansion are available for advance sale on our website. Guests may also purchase tickets the day of their visit\, subject to availability.
