SUMMARY:Art at Brucemore: Clay Jack o' Lanterns
DESCRIPTION:Embrace your spooky spirit!  \nBrucemore is partnering with the Iowa Ceramics Center and Glass Studio for this artist-favorite seasonal workshop\, just in time for Halloween! In this workshop\, participants will build their own unique Jack o’ Lantern (or gourd!) from clay\, using various hand-building techniques. Once your pumpkin is the perfect size and shape\, participants can add “boo-tiful” decorations to their creations with colored glazes and various textures. \nThis workshop is hosted in the Brucemore Carriage House. All instructions and materials are provided during the workshop. Following the workshop\, the instructor will take the projects to the Iowa Ceramics Center and Glass Studio for firing in their kiln. Your creation will be ready for pick-up from the Iowa Ceramics Center and Glass Studio approximately three weeks following the class date. \nTicket sales for this workshop close on October 1 at 5:00 PM. DESCRIPTION:Discover the joys of Plein Air painting! Popularized by Impressionist artists\, this approach to art involves creating a finished painting entirely outdoors. In this workshop\, Crystal Hird from the Eastern Iowa Arts Academy will guide you through using water colors to create your own work of art inspired by Brucemore’s historic landscape. No prior artistic experience is required to participate! \nEvent Date: October 11 \nEvent Time: 12:30 to 1:30 PM \nAdmission: \n\n$15 General Admission\nA $4.00 processing fee will be applied to all online and phone orders. Join us for a evening of Victorian horror tales and morbid fright music with Lucy Conroy’s Cello of the Damned. We’ll dip into a couple of Poe stories with Aron Pozdol\, Braden Rood\, and Matthew James\, as well as some ripping tales from the London fog. \nEvent Date: October 17 \nEvent Time: 7:30 PM \nEvent Location: Brucemore’s Carriage House \nAdmission: $15 for adults; $10 for students \nSpace for this event is limited. Advance ticket purchase is recommended.  \n\nWhat to expect from this event: \n\nYou are welcome to bring your own light snacks and beverages (beer and wine allowed) to enjoy in the performance venue. We’ll dip into a couple of Poe stories with Aron Pozdol\, Braden Rood\, and Matthew James\, as well as some ripping tales from the London fog. \nEvent Date: October 17 (Sold Out) & 18 (Sold Out) \nEvent Time: 7:30 PM \nEvent Location: Brucemore’s Carriage House \nAdmission: $15 for adults; $10 for students \nSpace for this event is limited. The mansion does not have an elevator.  Please make the best decision for the accessibility of your party with this knowledge.\nThis tour covers the three main floors of the mansion and the Tahitian Room and Grizzly Bar in the basement.\nThis tour is approximately 45 minutes long.\n\nWhat to do when you arrive \n\nEnter through the gate at 2160 Linden Dr. SE.\, Cedar Rapids\, IA 52403. Please do not use the exit gate on First Avenue to enter the site.\nOnce onsite\, follow signs towards the mansion.\nThere is on-site parking a short walk from the mansion entrance.\nIf you purchased tickets in advance\, please check in with staff at the mansion at the time on your ticket. If you need to purchase a ticket\, you can do that at the mansion when you arrive.\nThe mansion entrance is on the south side of the building\, through the front door next to the circle drive.\n\nTips for your visit \n\nFor site navigation tips\, please watch this video. A labeled Google Map of the site is available here.\nPlease consider leaving bags or other large personal items in your vehicle. A coat rack is available\, but it is not monitored during tours.\nEarly admittance may not be available and there is not an indoor lobby to wait for the tour to begin. If you arrive onsite more than 10 minutes before a scheduled tour\, please enjoy exploring the grounds before entering the mansion.\nGuided mansion tours start promptly on the hour. If you miss your tour start time\, you may be subject to a shortened tour or asked to join another tour time that day\, subject to availability.\nFood and drink are not allowed inside the mansion during tours. We encourage you to enjoy a meal at one of Cedar Rapids’ local restaurants before or after your visit.\nAll ticket sales are non-refundable.
