SUMMARY:Fall Plein Air Painting Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Discover the joys of Plein Air painting! Popularized by Impressionist artists\, this approach to art involves creating a finished painting entirely outdoors. In this workshop\, Crystal Hird from the Eastern Iowa Arts Academy will guide you through using water colors to create your own work of art inspired by Brucemore’s historic landscape. No prior artistic experience is required to participate! \nEvent Date: October 11 \nEvent Time: 12:30 to 1:30 PM \nAdmission: \n\n$15 General Admission\nA $4.00 processing fee will be applied to all online and phone orders. Admission may be purchased without a processing fee by visiting the the Mansion during open hours.\n\nWhat to know before you go: \n\nThis workshop includes materials. If you own arts supplies that you prefer to use\, you are welcome to bring those materials.\nThis workshop will involve being outside for an hour and walking across grass to reach the check-in location. Please choose your shoes and clothing with this in mind.\nIn the event of rain\, the workshop will be moved to an indoor location in Brucemore’s Carriage House.\nCapacity is limited. Advanced registration is encouraged. If space is available\, admission may be purchased at the mansion on the day of the event.\nThis workshop is recommended for adults and children 8 and up. We’ll dip into a couple of Poe stories with Aron Pozdol\, Braden Rood\, and Matthew James\, as well as some ripping tales from the London fog. \nEvent Date: October 17 \nEvent Time: 7:30 PM \nEvent Location: Brucemore’s Carriage House \nAdmission: $15 for adults; $10 for students \nSpace for this event is limited. In this hit social deduction game\, you’ll enter a world where an evil presence is killing victims one by one. Work with other players to try to discover the demon before it’s too late\, but don’t be too trusting – in this game\, you never know who has something to hide. \nWhether you’re a seasoned player or new to the game\, this is the perfect way to spend a chilling\, unforgettable evening. Your experience will be set against the moody backdrop of the mansion after hours\, with live music to add to the ambience. Tickets include light snacks and beverages to help fuel your sleuthing. Come dressed to kill to make the most of this elegantly eerie evening of mystery\, strategy\, and suspense. \nEvent date: Friday\, October 24 \nEvent time: 6:30 PM to 10 PM | Doors open at 6:30 PM | Gameplay starts by 7:00 PM \nAdmission: \n\n$22 Player Admission\nBrucemore Supporters receive $5 off per ticket.\nA $4 processing fee will be added to all online and phone orders.\n\nCapacity for this event is limited and the event may sell out. Tickets may be purchased online\, over the phone\, or in-person at the mansion during open hours. \n About the Game: \nBlood on the Clocktower is a social deduction game of murder and mystery led by a Storyteller. Each player will be assigned a unique character and designated either good or evil. Good players share information to help solve the mystery\, while evil players lie to try to lead the group astray. The good team wins if they can work together to execute the demon. The evil team wins if the demon can wipe out the entire village. \nWhat to expect from this event: \n\nOur Storyteller will lead two groups of up to 15 players in up to three games of Blood on the Clock Tower. The number of games played will depend on how much time players spend on each game.\nGroups will alternate between Night phases where the demon will choose which players to kill and Day phases where players will share their knowledge to try to solve the mystery.\nDuring Night phases\, players will be seated in a circle. During Day phases\, players will be able to visit other rooms of the mansion while they have conversations about solving the mystery.\nPlayers will receive their character assignments as they arrive. Please arrive by 6:50 PM to ensure gameplay can start by 7:00 PM.\nThis game is designed to be enjoyed by adults\, but players 15 and up may participate.\n\nNavigating the site: \n\nThe entrance to the estate is on Linden Drive. Some GPS systems may try to take you to another gate. This video and this labeled Google Map can help you plan your route to the entrance before you arrive.\nWhen you arrive on the site\, follow signs to the mansion. Parking is available a short walk from the entrance. DESCRIPTION:Calling all curious minds looking for a unique night out! Mansion Mixers are your chance to explore Brucemore after hours while diving into fascinating stories from history. Each program includes time for self-guided tours of the mansion\, an entertaining presentation from one of our public historians\, mocktails in the Tahitian Room\, and an activity tied to the evening’s theme. If you’re looking for a fun and casual way to learn something new while connecting with other history fans\, then this event is for you! \nInspired by our fall collections feature\, the November theme is Paws and Projectors!  \nCedar Rapids legend says that Brucemore’s Leo was related to MGM’s Jackie\, but is it true? We’ll explore this question and look at other Hollywood animals over drinks in the Tahitian Room. During your visit\, check out artefacts connected to the other animals who called Brucemore home. This will be one of your last chances to see the items before they go back into storage! Round out the evening by testing your knowledge of Brucemore and animal actors in a friendly trivia competition. \nThis event has limited capacity and can sell out. SUMMARY:Art at Brucemore: Glass Candy Cane Ornament (SOLD OUT)
DESCRIPTION:This workshop is sold out!  \nEmbrace the sparkle of the season!  \nBrucemore is partnering with the Iowa Ceramics Center and Glass Studio for another popular workshop\, just in time to kick off the holiday season! In this workshop\, participants will design candy can ornaments made of glass. Using a warm glass technique\, you can craft your candy cane into a traditional design or create a colorful treat to hang on your tree! \nThis workshop is hosted in the Brucemore Carriage House. All instructions and materials\, as well as protective eyewear\, are provided during the workshop. Following the workshop\, the instructor will take the projects to the Iowa Ceramics Center and Glass Studio for firing in their kilns. Your creation will be ready for pick-up from the Iowa Ceramics Center and Glass Studio approximately three weeks following the workshop date.  \nPlease register by November 12 at 5:00 PM to reserve your spot!  \nAdmission: $40 for one ornament | $60 for two ornaments \nNote: All participants must purchase their own admission. The two ornament option is for one participant to create two projects. Sharing projects is not allowed and will land you on the naughty list!  \nWhat to know before you go: \n\nWorkshop capacity is limited\, and workshops often sell out. Advanced registration is required. \nThis workshop is recommended for children ages 8 & up\, and comfortable working with glass pieces. All children must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the workshop. \nParticipants should plan to wear closed-toes shoes and clothing that covers their legs for safety. \nThis workshop lasts approximately 90 minutes. \n\nWhat to do when you arrive: \n\nPlease enter the site through the gate at 2160 Linden Dr. SE\, Cedar Rapids\, IA 52403.\nOnce onsite\, please follow signs towards the Carriage House\, where there is onsite parking available. \nCheck-in for the workshop with Brucemore staff at the Carriage House. \n\nTips for your visit: \n\nConsider leaving bags or other larger personal items in your vehicle. A coat rack is available\, but it is not monitored during the workshop. \nAll admission sales are final.
