DESCRIPTION:Looking for a way to indulge your curiosity and your creativity this fall? Visit Brucemore on October 10 to enjoy free arts activities and lawn games on the grounds. The mansion will be open for self-guided tours for only $5 per person. This is the perfect chance to enjoy early autumn weather and see our current seasonal collections feature highlighting objects related to Cedar Rapids industries. \nEvent Date: Saturday\, October 10 \nEvent Time: 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM \nEvent Admission:  \n\n$5 for self-guided tours\nFree outdoor arts activities and lawn games\nBrucemore Supporters receive free access to self-guided tours\nA $4 processing fee will be applied to all online and phone orders. Tickets may be purchased at the door without a processing fee.\n\nWhat to expect from a self-guided tour:  \n\nSelf-guided mansion tours do not include access to buildings other than the mansion.\nAccess to the basement Tahitian Room and Grizzly Bar will be led by a member of our visitor services team approximately every 30 minutes.\nYou may take as much or as little time in the mansion as you’d like\, but we recommend planning to spend 45 minutes in the mansion to allow enough time to explore.\nThe last entry time for self-guided tours is 4:30 PM. The mansion will close at 5:00 PM.\nTours of the mansion consist of substantial walking and standing. The historic mansion is not currently wheelchair accessible. There are several stairs to access the first floor\, and several flights of stairs to see the other floors. The mansion does not have an elevator. Please make the best decision for the accessibility of your party with this knowledge.\n\nWhat to do when you arrive:  \n\nEnter through the gate at 2160 Linden Dr. SE\, Cedar Rapids\, IA 52403. Please do not use the exit gate on First Avenue to enter the site.\nOnce onsite\, follow signs towards the mansion.\nThere is on-site parking a short walk from the mansion entrance.\nIf you purchased tickets in advance\, please check-in with staff at the mansion at the time listed on your ticket. If you need to purchase a ticket\, you can do that at the mansion when you arrive\, subject to availability.\nThe mansion entrance is on the south side of the building\, through the front door next to the circle drive.\n\nTips for your visit:  \n\nFor site navigation tips\, please watch this video. A labeled Google Map of the site is available here.\nPlease consider leaving bags or other large personal items in your vehicle. A coat rack is available\, but it is not monitored during tours.\nFood and drink are not allowed inside the mansion during tours. We encourage you to enjoy a meal a one of Cedar Rapids’ local restaurants before or after your visit.\nAll ticket sales are non-refundable. Join Brucemore for a free beginner or intermediate songwriting workshop where you’ll explore your own creativity\, find inspiration in the experiences around you\, and connect with others through music. \nIntermediate Songwriting Session – Saturday\, October 24\, 1:00 – 5:00 pm \nSome songwriting experience required. We will be looking at storytelling both lyrically and melodically\, the difference between the roles of a songwriter and a singer-songwriter\, how melody and harmony can make or break the best lyrics\, and the business of songwriting. Please bring at least one song you wish to share with a copy of the lyrics (if applicable)\, as there will be a writer’s circle at this session. \nBeginning Songwriting Session – Sunday\, October 25  \nNo musical experience is necessary. We will be exploring the relationships between words and melody\, how to get started\, remain motivated\, and the basics of storytelling.
