History - T. M. Sinclair & Company
|
 |
In 1871, T. M. Sinclair opened a branch of the family meatpacking business in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. With packing plants already established in the East, he chose a location with easy access to hogs. Railroads, which entered town in 1859, helped secure Sinclair's success. The trains shipped the company's products East and brought new residents to Cedar Rapids, increasing the workforce. Within a few years, T. M. Sinclair and Company became the largest meatpacking plant in the state.
