Logistical Information

Tour of Dining Room 1. Make reservations 3 weeks in advance. Provide the following information: name of school/organization, contact person, phone number, mailing address, number of students, ages/grade levels, preferred dates, and anticipated number of adult chaperones.

2. Teachers and chaperones are responsible for discipline issues.

3. For elementary groups, teachers must inform us if the group will visit the Tahitian Room and Grizzly Bar.

4. Review bus directions and provide the driver with a map. Buses must enter on Dows Lane and unload in the Visitor Center parking lot. Smaller vehicles should enter at Linden Drive.

5. Discuss with students our expectations for their conduct.
  • Photography is not allowed inside the mansion, but it is permitted in the Visitor Center and outside.
  • Food and gum are not allowed inside the buildings.
  • Students should stay with their group both inside and on the grounds.
  • Students should treat their guides with courtesy and allow them to speak and lead the group.
  • Students should not touch objects or lean against furnishings unless otherwise stated by their guide.
6. Students should be in pre-assigned groups of approximately 12, and younger students should wear nametags.

Expectations for on-site visit

1. Teachers and chaperones are responsible for discipline issues; the job of the guide is to instruct.

2. The adult/student ratio is 1/6 for students under 8 years of age and 1/10 for older students.

3. The bus will load and unload students at the Brucemore Visitor Center. The bus entrance is on DOWS LANE.

4. Photography is permitted inside the Visitor Center and outside. Cameras are prohibited inside the mansion.

5. Food and gum are not allowed inside the buildings.

6. The teacher must give consent for the group to visit the Tahitian Room and Grizzly Bar.

7. Guides consider a fieldtrip experience to be an educational experience and expect the group to treat it as such. Any written materials given to students should be treated as an “assignment.”

8. Guides wear gloves when handling objects because oils in our hands can damage objects. Students are expected to refrain from touching objects or sitting on furnishings unless otherwise stated by their guide.

9. Guides should be allowed a comfortable amount of personal space and should be allowed to lead the group.

10. Students should stay with their group while inside any building or on the grounds. Running is strongly discouraged.
